An arts village breaks out again this weekend in downtown Gatlinburg on the campus of Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, as the 100-year old school stages its FREE arts festival for the tenth year running. The festival runs Friday through Sunday, October 3-5, 2014.
Literally just a step off the sidewalk at Traffic Light #5 in the middle of Gatlinburg, the tranquil campus of this internationally renowned fine-arts school gives way to a host of tents and booths showcasing the works of artists from near and far, selected by jury for the highest quality artisanship. If you love to fish you already know that this Smoky Mountains area is a great place to cast a lure, not just from the scenery all around but also for the wildlife in the waters, the abundance and variety of fish in the many streams that cut the terrain all around.

Tennessee’s best kept secret may be the annual 3-day, Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival happening this weekend at Dumplin Farm, an easy 25-mile drive north of Gatlinburg on the edge of town in Kodak. The festival features more than a dozen highly acclaimed, top performers this Thursday through Saturday, September 18-20, 2014.
All the performers are outstanding at this magic music festival, and the headliners for each night’s final performance are the “Most Awarded Band in Bluegrass Music” Rhonda Vincent & The Rage (Friday), Lonesome River Band (Saturday) and Cordle, Jackson & Salley (Thursday). The Tennessee Museum of Aviation in Sevierville hosts a climate-controlled, 35,000 sq ft hangar filled with arrays of exhibits and memorabilia. It also has real warplanes that fly, and a runway right outside the hangar doors to prove that museums don’t have to be dull, or quiet, or even stay still without moving! (more…)

The 5th Annual Smoky Mountain Military and Relic Show is coming to Pigeon Forge at the Smoky Mountain Convention Center this weekend, August 23-24. This year the show combines with a tribute to Vietnam veterans in a parade on Saturday, August 23, and an exhibit staged August 21-24. (more…)
