Shades of the Past Hot Rod Roundup 2016

It’s the first weekend after Labor Day, which means for the 34th year running, the annual Shades Of The Past Hot Rod Roundup is coming to Pigeon Forge. The event is held again in Dollywood’s Splash Country grounds, Friday and Saturday, September 9-10, 2016.

Hundreds of amazing vehicles with gleaming paint and lots of muscle – and all of a vintage no later than 1972 – will again gather from all over to show off their lines and celebrate some of America’s best cars ever built. There will be multiple awards and a Second Prize of $10,000 – with the First prize again a ’32 Ford Hi-Boy Roadster, custom built by Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop, a famous native Tennessee operation.

How far is Gatlinburg From Memphis?

Memphis to Gatlinburg is a 433-mile, fun-filled road trip through Tennessee to the entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The quickest way is also the best, taking Interstate 40, the corridor connecting West and East Tennessee. Enjoy these cool discoveries along your way, most located just 1-to-2 miles off the interstate.

Music between Memphis and Nashville

Tina Turner fans will enjoy cranking her greatest hits on their way to tour the Tina Turner Museum in Brownsville, TN. Wild wigs and shiny dresses are optional. Many such items are in residence, donated by the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll” herself – all housed in the country school house where she attended grade school.

This event continues each year to gain in popularity, and fills the town with live music and the unique opportunity to meet the writers of the hit songs, to engage in workshops and co-authoring, and to hear the stories behind the legends, from the people on the inside of the music industry.

How Far is Gatlinburg from Atlanta? What’s the Best Drive?

You can get to Gatlinburg, TN, in 4 hours from Atlanta, GA, on a roughly 200-mile drive through Appalachian country. And here are some nice places along the way to make a day of the trip and take in some extra sights and attractions.

Some people like to leave Atlanta on State Highway 23, citing the more scenic experience, while others head out on I-85, splitting to I-985 for a while, until Hwy 23 merges in and takes lead designation. Either way, round up the crew and get on the road to the Smokies!
